What to know beforehand

Discounted flights

TRAVEL

Foreigners have access to a special fare to over 30 cities in Japan in the JAL domestic network, all the flights have fixed price. The closest airport is in Akita, 1h30 away by train and airport shuttle. More details here.

Traditional housing

ACCOMMODATION

The rooms are just like a Japanese family house. Meaning they are 6 to 8 tatami sized, shared dormitory style with futon mattress and divided by sliding paper doors. If you wish, there is also the possibility to have a private room - just let us know.

Fast Internet

WORK

Even though this is the countryside, we have a mobile wifi unit to provide fast internet to our members. In case we plan a roadtrip together, we can still bring it with us to stay connected and keep completing our tasks on the road.

Taste the local food

CUISINE

Everyday lunch is delivered by a local chef, the menu is composed by traditional Japanese food and varies from day to day. We also get to support the local businesses by having fresh vegetables.

Quiet Space

WORK

If you need a silent space to focus, we have access to another house just next to the main work space. The internet speed is slightly slower due to the repeater, but it's usually enough to get the work done.

Bathing

HEALTH

The bathroom in the house is equipped with the traditional way of Japanese bathing. This means there is no shower head, instead there is a bathtub and a scoop, it is a good way to be more conscious and sustainable about the environment. There's also access to multiple Onsens around the region.

Explore the landscapes

TRAVEL

The best way to get to know the surroundings is to take a bicycle ride through the several forests and country roads around, stop at a Shrine and be immersed in the spiritual presence that nature can provide. We have 5 bicycles at our disposal, so our members can take a healthy break from work.

Sustainability

ENVIRONMENT

We are aware and conscious of the environment. Besides recycling most of the trash we produce, we compost food leftovers and our toilets have a built-in composting system. Our washing machine also uses a manual program, this way we reduce the amount of water used.

Doing Groceries

SHOPPING

Just 2 minutes away by walk there is a small convenience store. If you wish to have a wider variety, the closest option is in Noshiro city where there are several supermarkets and shops. The best way to get there is by train, but you can also join the pre-arranged pick-up and drop-off shuttle.

Exercise

HEALTH

We have a wooden platform outside where you can do exercise on your own. Also going for a run through rice fields is a great way to feel like a local!
